Subject:
Hugely useful book spoilt by inconsistent links
Shaw's book remains more or less unique in trying to present a coherent history of the English Church as it underwent transformation towards a Presbyterian polity, which proved a dead letter and was followed by a period of Independency and experimentation. It has lots of sources material, systematically presented, and despite its age is a great starting point for exploring the subject for anyone interested in the Civil War and Commonwealth, or simply in England's religious history. Both volumes are useful. Unfortunately the "full text" link here is actually to the text of the second volume: a pity, as many will find the lack of a searchable version an impediment to research.
